Research Spotlight

Dr. James Bohnhoff is a pediatrician and health services researcher who works to describe and reduce barriers to access to pediatric subspeciality care for children in rural areas. He recently completed an evaluation of the distance to pediatric specialists for children across the rural state of Montana, finding that the median travel time to the nearest specialist was more than three times higher for American Indian than non-American Indian children. Dr. Bohnhoff’s work provides an important foundation for addressing barriers to care for children in rural areas.
