Director – Research and Grant Accounting

Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Accounting, this position directs MaineHealth’s sponsored projects accounting enterprise, including the MaineHealth Institute for Research. The Director is responsible for the recording, reporting, and interpretation of financial data and information as well as leading the budget process and monthly variance reporting.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Education: Knowledge of accounting principles and accounting systems to maintain general ledgers and journals and prepare related financial statements and reports as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and at least seven to ten years of progressive accounting experience.
  2. License/Certifications: CPA certificate preferred.
  3. Experience: Previous supervisory experience required. Heath care experience preferred.
  4. Grant financial administration and compliance knowledge, including accounting principles, OASC-3, and A-133 knowledge preferred.
  5. Computer literacy is required. Extensive knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products preferred. Experience with Lawson products preferred.
  6. Analytical skills necessary to prepare, reconcile, and analyze financial statements and reports.
  7. Knowledge of and ability to apply fundamental concepts and principles of technical accounting pronouncements and fund accounting.
  8. Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective on-going relationships and communications with various constituencies within and external to the organizations.
  9. Ability to speak and write effectively; communicating clearly through work paper schedules, memoranda, financial reports, and discussions with Medical Center personnel.
  10. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when reviewing ledgers and preparing detailed financial and statistical reports.

Faculty Scientist

Summary

MHIR is strategically expanding to enhance its success in biomedical and health research. We are fostering stronger partnerships between research and clinical care, while growing our portfolio across basic science, translational research, health services, implementation science, clinical research, and population health outcomes. To support this expansion, we are actively seeking faculty candidates at various levels—Faculty Scientist I (Assistant Professor), Faculty Scientist II (Associate Professor), and Faculty Scientist III (Professor). Advanced degrees (MD, DO, PhD) are required for these positions which are expected to be filled over the next 6-18 months. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

We are seeking expansion along a spectrum of research, but not limited to these areas of focus:

Faculty Scientist I: should have post-doctoral experience relevant for their area of study. Criteria for evaluation include research productivity, peer reviewed scientific publications, and potential/early evidence for independent research funding.

Faculty Scientist II:should have obtained independent research funding and demonstrated a track record of peer reviewed publications and recognition in their field. Experience with teaching and mentorship of interns, students, trainees, and junior faculty is required. Contributions to the research community through service, education, and leadership are highly desired.

Faculty Scientist III:should have an established track record of research funding and national recognition in their field. They must have a consistent and active record of peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience and interest in mentoring early-career faculty and trainees. A well-rounded education/teaching portfolio is a plus. Successful candidates will also demonstrate excellent management skills, leadership, and mentorship, participating in institutional and national scientific service. Senior faculty recruits with expertise in clinical and translational science, as well as administrative leadership experience, have an opportunity to be considered for a leadership position at MHIR.

Lead Quality Coordinator

Summary

This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive quality assurance reviews for clinical research conducted within the Clinical Trials Office at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, Scarborough, ME. The quality coordinator contributes to research by ensuring the ethical and compliant conduct of clinical research projects throughout the MaineHealth network. Responsibilities include performing quality assurance reviews of ongoing projects, identifying & communicating opportunities for training to the Lead Trainer, communicating review findings to CTO Leadership and coordinating audits conducted by external entities. Under the supervision of the Manager – Regulatory Affairs and Quality, the Lead Quality Coordinator will plan, coordinate and implement the quality assurance program for the Clinical Trials Office. They are expected to effectively collaborate with study Principal Investigators, Clinical Coordinators, and external and internal regulatory bodies. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as attention to detail are necessary for success.

Program Manager – Precision Medicine

Summary

This position is designed for someone interested in joining the recently formed Precision Medicine Council, which is launching MaineHealth’s (MH) new Precision Medicine (PM) program. The Precision Medicine Council is focused primarily on identifying and developing initiatives that improve the health of our communities through research and education. This Program Manager will work under the general supervision of Dr. Anne Breggia, Chair of the PM Council. This newly created role will have primary responsibility for:

  • Contributing to development of strategy and vision for MH Precision Medicine
  • Contributing to communications of program objectives, evaluations, and outcome measurements to MH leadership
  • Maintaining all operational aspects of the MH Precision Medicine program including development and maintenance of program materials; as well as planning, implementation, and evaluation of PM program initiatives
  • Assisting in the development of MH Precision Medicine Council budget
  • With oversight from the Chair, seeking outside funding sources when appropriate and assisting with coordinating or writing grant proposals.
  • Working with the MH Philanthropy Office as needed to meet financial goals
  • Reconciling the monthly program budget with Financial Services
  • Preparing PM Council meeting agendas, materials, taking minutes and providing follow up meeting notes and action items resulting from PM Council meetings
  • Gathering, tracking and analyzing data generated from PM Council initiatives

Research Assistant II – Mountain Lab

Summary

The Mountain Lab of the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) is looking for a Research Assistant II (Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related work experience) to join our team!

Research in the Mountain Lab focuses on Investigating the impact of psychosocial stress on bone metabolism and skeletal health using both mouse models and human epidemiological cohorts. The Research Assistant II will specifically work on projects related to how social isolation negatively impacts bone in mice.

Our Research Assistant II will conduct a variety of laboratory procedures under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, Rebecca Mountain, PhD, or the PI’s designee. They may assist biological or medical scientists in the lab. They will set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor experiments, make observations, calculate and record results, and maintain mouse colonies. This team member must be able to recognize problems or deviations in experimental conditions and notify appropriate personnel. They must also be able to master routine techniques and procedures relevant to the overall goals of the lab. The availability of this position is directly related to grant funding.

Excellent candidates with less than 1 year of laboratory work experience may also be considered for a level I position.

This position is based on-site at our Scarborough, ME research facility.

RN – Research Patient Navigator

Summary

The Registered Nurse – Research Patient Navigator is a member of the Clinical Trials team as part of the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR). We are looking for an experienced research nurse to lead the rapid growth of our Oncology Clinical Trials portfolio. This role will spearhead the clinical operations implementation of new therapeutic trials within the Oncology Program, through the development of source documents, recruitment plans and study-related processes that align with established clinical pathways in the Program. This role will work closely with the research teams and clinical care teams prior to study activation, to communicate and provide training on trial requirements. The Research Patient Navigator will also be responsible for connecting patients to clinical research services within the organization, outside facilities, and within the community.

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required or must complete BSN within three years of start date.

Senior Biostatistician

Summary

The Center for Interdisciplinary & Population Health Research (CIPHR), as part of the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR), seeks a Senior Biostatistician with quantitative methodological expertise in the design and analysis of clinical trials and observational studies. The Senior Biostatistician will be a doctoral-trained scientist with experience in supervising and mentoring data analysts and early career researchers. The Senior Biostatistician is a research staff (non-faculty) position and will primarily work as a technical expert supporting clinical investigators and faculty scientists in the design and analysis of research studies. The Senior Biostatistician will also be responsible for direct supervision and mentorship for a team of research data analysts in CIPHR. Other time can be used to conduct independent research, mentor trainees, professional development, or other responsibilities as negotiated. The successful candidate will have experience in human studies research, including experience with collaborating with diverse investigators and projects, experience supervising research staff, and ability to manage multiple on-going projects. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in predictive modeling or clinical trials, and who have interest in working with investigators who conduct acute care research. A terminal graduate degree (e.g. PhD, ScD) in a quantitative discipline (e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics, or similar) is required.
