Clinical Trials Budget Analyst II
Summary
This position is for someone interested in joining a financial operations team within the Clinical Trials Division at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, based in Scarborough, ME. The Financial Operations team contributes to research at MaineHealth by collaborating with clinical research and project teams on forecast preparation, variance analysis, and collecting and analyzing data to implement strategies for cost savings and planning. Under the general direction of the Manager of Clinical Trials Research Operations, the Budget Analyst II will take on primary responsibility for managing the daily business and financial activities of clinical trials assigned to them. The Budget Analyst supports a broad range of research operations management including Research Counsel, Sponsored Research, Accounting Management, and Financial/Business Operations. Successful support will require skills in RedCap, EMR, and CTMS navigation and fiscal reporting, for timely study and project status updates. This role requires general knowledge of clinical research coordination, initiative, independent judgment, and discretion.

Faculty Scientist II or III
Summary
The Center for Interdisciplinary Population & Health Research (CIPHR) is recruiting a Principal Investigator to bring their research program to the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) as a Faculty Scientist II (Associate Professor) or Faculty Scientist III (Full Professor). We are interested in a population health researcher whose focus is on social determinants/drivers of health, with preference for an investigator whose work aligns with cancer control or implementation science.
MHIR is situated within MaineHealth, the largest hospital system in Maine, and provides unique opportunities to conduct research that is of benefit to patient and community populations, particularly among rural populations. MaineHealth provides preventive care, diagnosis and treatment to 1.1 million residents in Maine and New Hampshire through providers of primary care and numerous specialty care service lines, including two regional campuses of the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network.
MHIR provides research infrastructure, including an Office of Grants Administration, an Office of Research Compliance, a Clinical Trials Office, and four independent research centers ranging from basic science and translational research to population health outcomes research. MHIR has a strong and growing annual grant portfolio, which will eclipse $25 million in extramural funding in 2025. Investigators at MHIR are highly collaborative and dedicated to improving the health of our patients and communities.
The Center for Interdisciplinary Population and Health Research (CIPHR) is one of four research centers in MHIR. CIPHR designs, supports, and conducts innovative research and evaluations to improve population health. We focus on improving patient-centered outcomes, partnering with communities, addressing health disparities, educating, training & mentoring, implementing & evaluating evidence-informed interventions, and disseminating findings. Successful applicants will have an established record in mentoring trainees and early career investigators, and have a funded, transferrable research program that demonstrates current and future ability to secure NIH, PCORI, or other external funding. The Faculty Scientist II/III will have a unique opportunity to help build the scientific future and direction for MHIR and CIPHR, and we are seeking individuals who are eligible to apply for large center grants (e.g. NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence or P01) and have an entrepreneurial mindset around funding diversification for MHIR.

Faculty Scientist
Summary
The MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR), established in 1991, has experienced remarkable growth, driven by successful grant funding and the recruitment of world-class scientists. The institute’s full service scientific facilities foster cutting-edge research with a particular focus on basic, translational science and population health. As a part of MaineHealth, the state’s largest integrated healthcare system, MHIR collaborates with the network of nine hospitals to enable a seamless connection between scientific discoveries and their real-world application in patient care and community engagement. MHIR has state of the art resources to support basic, translational and clinical research. These include, but are not limited to, twelve scientific cores, an AAALAC accredited rodent facility, data analytics, and grant and clinical research support. MHIR has a diverse multi-disciplinary pool of scientists including basic scientists, physician-investigators, epidemiologists, health services researchers, behavioral and social scientists, biostatisticians, and methodological (quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods) specialists. Our partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine offers appointments for MHIR faculty, and we have ongoing collaborations with the University of New England, University of Southern Maine, University of Maine, University of Vermont, the Jackson Laboratory and Northeastern University/Roux Institute.
MHIR is strategically expanding to enhance its success in biomedical and health research. We are fostering stronger partnerships between research and clinical care, while growing our portfolio across basic science, translational research, health services, implementation science, clinical research, and population health outcomes. To support this expansion, we are actively seeking faculty candidates at various levels—Faculty Scientist I (Assistant Professor), Faculty Scientist II (Associate Professor), and Faculty Scientist III (Professor). Advanced degrees (MD, DO, PhD) are required for these positions which are expected to be filled over the next 6-18 months. Faculty Scientist I: should have post-doctoral experience relevant for their area of study. Criteria for evaluation include research productivity, peer reviewed scientific publications, and potential/early evidence for independent research funding.
Faculty Scientist II: should have obtained independent research funding and demonstrated a track record of peer reviewed publications and recognition in their field. Experience with teaching and mentorship of interns, students, trainees, and junior faculty is required. Contributions to the research community through service, education, and leadership are highly desired.
Faculty Scientist III: should have an established track record of research funding and national recognition in their field. They must have a consistent and active record of peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience and interest in mentoring early-career faculty and trainees. A well-rounded education/teaching portfolio is a plus. Successful candidates will also demonstrate excellent management skills, leadership, and mentorship, participating in institutional and national scientific service. Senior faculty recruits with expertise in clinical and translational science, as well as administrative leadership experience, have an opportunity to be considered for a leadership position at MHIR.

Manager- Clinical Trials
Summary
This position is for someone interested in joining a hands-on team at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, which, under the direction of the Director – Clinical Trials Office, will provide leadership and oversight for staff and non-oncology program development. The position is responsible for directing and supporting staff, managing program operations and resources, and contributing to the planning and implementation of the strategic vision for the Clinical Trials Office. This Manager will play a key role in expanding research initiatives in non-oncology areas, with a focus on building sustainable structures through research navigation and program development. This position will collaborate closely with the Director – as well as investigators across MaineHealth hospitals and clinics – to strengthen clinical research infrastructure, foster multidisciplinary engagement, and advance the growth and impact of the Clinical Trials Office.

Senior Biostatistician
Summary
The Center for Interdisciplinary & Population Health Research (CIPHR), as part of the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR), seeks a Senior Biostatistician with quantitative methodological expertise in the design and analysis of clinical trials and observational studies. The Senior Biostatistician will be a doctoral-trained scientist with experience in supervising and mentoring data analysts and early career researchers. The Senior Biostatistician is a research staff (non-faculty) position and will work as a technical expert supporting clinical investigators and faculty scientists in the design and analysis of research studies. The Senior Biostatistician will also be responsible for direct supervision and mentorship for a team of research data analysts in CIPHR. Other time can be used to conduct independent research, mentor trainees, professional development, or other responsibilities, as negotiated. The successful candidate will have experience in human studies research, including experience with collaborating with diverse investigators and projects, experience supervising research staff, and ability to manage multiple on-going projects. Individuals with expertise in machine learning, predictive modeling, or clinical trials are particularly encouraged to apply, but all areas of expertise will be considered. A terminal graduate degree (e.g. PhD, ScD, DrPH) in a quantitative discipline (e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics, or similar) is required.
