Dr. Prast, a dedicated health advocate, realized early in his career that research and advocacy are intertwined and necessary parts of healthcare. As a result, his advocacy and educational focuses have influenced his research. Dr. Prast’s primary research focus is on identifying population-level health disparities and finding creative ways to address them. This includes a broad range of projects, from creating and analyzing large, multi-state databases of labor and delivery outcomes, to assessing current educational standards of care in sexually transmitted infection testing.
In addition, Dr. Prast is involved in multi-state programs focusing on climate and environmental health research through the Northern New England Co-Op Practice-Based Research Network. He works on multiple interprofessional care teams to assess and advance the study of climate health in primary care. Through all his projects, he aims to include learners at all stages of their medical education in the process.
