PIER and RESILIENCE Team Members
Sarah Lynch, LCSW
Program Manager
My name is Sarah Lynch and I am the Program Manager for the PIER and Resilience Teams. I supervise the team members and work to make sure that the program continues to improve and expand. I graduated with a Master’s of Social Work from Columbia University and have been with the PIER Program since 2003. Over the last two decades, I have remained passionate about early intervention and seeing young people reach their potential. The more young people and families come together, the less alone they feel. I believe it takes a community to reduce mental health stigma. I love to spend time with my family being active outdoors.
Graham Botto, LMSW-CC
Clinician
I graduated with with a MSW from UNE. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program because my passion for working with psychosis and the promise of life long change with early intervention. I spend my free time kayaking, being outdoors, wood working, and being with my family.
Barbara Bowman, LCSW
Clinician
I graduated with a MSW from University of New England. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program in 2022. I was drawn to the PIER/Resilience Program because of the comprehensive team approach which makes it easier for the family and improves outcomes. I spend my free time enjoying my family and pets, cooking, walking and playing word games.
Jennifer Collins, LCSW
Clinician
I graduated with a MSW from Eastern Washington University and am a therapist for the CHRp Program. I joined the PIER/CHRp/Resilience Program in 2023. I was drawn to PIER/CHRp/Resilience Program because I want to be a part of supporting and facilitating earliest interventions, for young people struggling with mental health symptoms. I have witnessed these struggles personally, with people I love, and know earlier interventions encourage the best change for stability and quality of life. I spend my free time supporting two amazing young people, trying to be mindful of my health and taking part in community theater, when I can.
Vanessa Davy, LCSW
Clinician
My name is Vanessa Davy and I am a therapist on the team. I work with individuals, families and groups in the program. I graduated with a Master’s of Social Work from New York University. I joined the PIER Program in 2020 but prior to that had worked in Maine Medical Center’s Outpatient Adult Psychiatry department. I was drawn to the PIER team because of the focus on evidence-based care and cutting edge mental health treatment for young people and their families. In my spare time I love to be outside hiking or indoors reading.
Rebecca Jaynes, LCPC
CHRp Program Supervisor
My name is Rebecca Jaynes and I am a CHRp Program Supervisor. I work with individuals, families and groups. I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado. I joined the PIER Program in 2007 and have had multiple roles on the team over the last decade. I am passionate about the work and bearing witness to the powerful personal changes that young people go through as they start to make sense of their experiences. I have seen young people become stronger and more confident and hopeful about their futures. When I am not working, I can be found dancing like nobody is watching and finding other ways to make people laugh.
Amy Mayhew, MD
Psychiatrist
My name is Amy Mayhew and I am the Psychiatrist on the team. I work with participants and families to provide medication management, diagnostic clarification and treatment planning. I graduated with a Master’s in Public Health from Tulane University and received my MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. I completed my psychiatry residency at Baylor University and my adolescent psychiatry fellowship with the Cambridge Health Alliance. I joined the PIER team in 2020 and was drawn to the program because I enjoy working with a team and with a family based approach to treatment. Outside of work, you can find me hiking, swimming and traveling with my family and friends or cooking and reading.
Jess McKenzie
PIER/Resilience Referral Specialist
I joined the PIER/Resilience Program in 2022. I was drawn to the PIER/Resilience Program because I was looking for something mentally stimulating. I spend my free time reading, baking, and cleaning houses (I’m practically a Disney Princess).
Charley Mestrich
Peer Support Specialist
I graduated with a bachelor’s in sociology and gender & sexuality from Bryn Mawr College. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program in 2022. I was drawn to the PIER/Resilience Program because I want to provide a kindness, compassion, and support to people that I wish I had gotten when I was struggling with my mental health the most. I spend my free time crafting and baking!
Elise Moshimer, RN
PIER Psychiatric Nurse
I graduated from UNE’s Nursing program in 2006. I joined PIER in 2022. I was drawn to PIER after working on an adult inpatient psychiatric unit for 10 years and seeing the major effects that psychotic illnesses can have on someone’s life. My own approach to mental health care really aligns with the PIER model of early intervention, care coordination and the focus on stress-vulnerability as a pathway to living a full life. I love working on a team and being in partnership with other team members as well as patients and families. I spend my free time with my wife and 2 dogs, staying outdoors and active as much as possible, hiking, gardening, cross country skiing, weight lifting, yoga and cooking!
Elias Pierce
Peer Support Partner
I graduated with a BA from Bowdoin College. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program because I love working on a team, I’m passionate about the peer support role, and I’m drawn to the meaning that can be gleaned from examining the ways in which other people’s realities intersect with my own. I spend my free time climbing rocks and writing stories.

Peter Rosengrans, PhD
I graduated with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington and completed clinical internship at the Seattle VA Medical Center. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program in 2023. I was drawn to the PIER/Resilience Program because of the opportunity to provide state-of-the-art care to individuals and families in a team environment. I spend my free time playing hockey and in the outdoors, hiking and snowboarding.
Mary Ross
Care Coordinator
My name is Mary Ross and I am the Care Manager on the PIER team. I support young people and families to build connections in the community and help young people be-come independent and confident young adults. I also support families by facilitating groups to help caregivers support each other. I attended Thomas College and I have a Mental Health Rehabilitation Certificate. I joined PIER in 2016 and I love the work that I get to do with my teammates, young people and families. I am energized everyday by the connections I get to make. When I am not working, you can find me among my small pet menagerie at home while crafting and laughing with my husband and two grown daughters.
Erick Schadler, OTR/L
Employment / Education Specialist
I graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern Maine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program because I enjoy working in the mental health field and helping individuals achieve meaningful employment, education, and community activities that contribute to their health and well-being. I spend my free time playing basketball, practicing dog training, cooking, and enjoying the company of my family, friends, and pets!
Liisa Sloat
Employment & Education Specialist
My name is Liisa Sloat and I am the Education and Vocation Specialist on the team. I support young people with anything related to school, work or volunteering. I graduated with a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Assumption College. I joined the PIER team in 2018 but have worked at Maine Medical Center in the same role since 2015. I enjoy being part of the PIER team and working with multiple providers to help participants and families get the best care they can. I love supporting young adults to reach their school and work goals. When I am not working, I am usually enjoying the outdoors with my husband and two young daughters.
Renee Stachmus
Parent Peer Support Partner
I am a certified Family Peer Support Partner working toward my Bachelor of Arts degree at UMA. I joined the PIER/Resilience Program in 2022. I was drawn to the PIER/Resilience Program because I am passionate about implementing trauma informed, progressive approaches to mental health care. As a parent of a PIER graduate, I reflect the tremendous benefit and healing we received through this multidisciplinary program.
In my free time I enjoy the constant evolution of my family and friendships, yoga, writing, and pursuits of self-inquiry. I seek to find beauty and meaning in the shared experience of humanity.
Jennifer Wienckowski
Program Coordinator
My name is Jennifer Wienckowski and I am the Program Coordinator helping to make sure the team works efficiently together and technologically is up-to-date. I graduated from Southern Maine Technical College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business and Information Technology. I joined PIER in 2020 and I find the support that the team lends to young people and families inspiring. In my free time you can find me cooking, laughing, and exploring the outdoors with my husband and two daughters.
Research Team
We are part of an international effort to better understand the nature of different mental health experiences, how they develop, and how to better help people for whom these experiences are distressing or getting in the way of their lives.
