Patient Centeredness

Who is eligible for PICC-CF?

Any patient age 6 or older that is scheduled to undergo treatment for a lung infection with intravenous (IV) antibiotics through a PICC or midline catheter would be considered for participation in this study. We are not studying patients with Mediports or similar implanted devices, and there are other medical details that would be considered before enrollment in PICC-CF. The study team will review all of this with you and answer any questions you might have. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary.

What will happen if I decide to participate in PICC-CF?

Participation in this study is easy and should not interfere with the plan of treatment for your lung infection. All treatments would be ordered and scheduled by your primary care team. If you are enrolled in the study, you will be asked to show us your IV (PICC or midline) and tell us if you have had any problems with it (for example, it hurts, or itches or gets clogged). Twice during the study we will get blood tests, just like other blood tests you get during your treatment. You will be asked questions about how you feel (for example, does your arm feel swollen or does it hurt?). We may take a picture of your IV site, if the area looks red or swollen.
