Dr. Lucy Liaw is a Faculty Scientist in the Center for Molecular Medicine at MaineHealth Institute for Research. She is also the Director of Research Education & Training Programs and runs a shared resource for the generation of transgenic mouse models. Her academic appointments are with Tufts University School of Medicine, University of Maine, Orono, and University of Southern Maine.

Dr. Liaw leads a research program focused on vascular disease, and also works on technology development related to generation of mouse models and vascular imaging.  Her program is NIH funded, and she has participated over the years in peer review and committee assignments for NHLBI program projects, fellowships, institutional training mechanisms, and other study sections. She has also been involved over the years in the American Heart Association, serving on research committees and chairing peer review committees.

Another interest is education and training, and since 2011, she has led our Research Training initiatives. This has included involvement in starting a responsible conduct of research program, helping to establish a combined postdoc/graduate student professional development association, organizing training and career development events, and serving as a general advisor for research trainees. She also is the liaison to the Tufts and UMaine PhD programs, and is involved in strategic planning for these programs.
