Our researchers are involved in community outreach and can come to your school or classroom to visit. Previous visits have included discussion about careers, science, biomedical research, or specific experimental techniques. We work with educators to provide an expert in the biomedical research field to enhance the school science curriculum or career exploration options.
Visit MHIR
Educators and community groups may request a field trip/tour of MHIR. We aim to be flexible with groups according to their needs. Examples of visit activities have included tours, career panels, hands-on activities like specimen stations with microscopes, and topic-specific sessions. In general visits are usually 2 hours long. We can typically fit up to 50 people in our conference room but smaller groups (no more than 30 at a time) are preferred if hands-on activities will take place.
Our Education Coordinator will work with you to determine feasibility of a visit and to determine a mutually convenient date and time for the visit. Due to staffing resources we cannot guarantee that a field trip can be scheduled. All student groups must have at least one chaperone and students must have their guardian complete a release form for the visit to MHIR, to be provided by the coordinator once the visit date has been set.
**At this time, because of COVID restrictions, students are not allowed to enter MHIR Research Facilities, and so field trips are not being scheduled. If you would like to request a virtual career panel or event, please Contact Us! We will do our best to accommodate requests based on schedules and availability.**
