MaineHealth Institute for Research supports and encourages a broad spectrum of research at MaineHealth ranging from basic laboratory-based research to translational and clinical research, to patient- centered outcomes research. The institute is divided into the following research divisions: Center for Molecular Medicine, Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Center for Interdisciplinary Population & Health Research, and The Center for Applied Science & Technology.

Successful medical research is a complex process requiring close collaboration of basic scientists, physicians, epidemiologists and data analysts, state-of-the-art instruments, resources to protect the patients who volunteer to participate in clinical trials, and a strong commitment from the Institution. All of these elements are represented in the MaineHealth Institute for Research.
