Lee Lucas is an epidemiologist and health services researcher with a clinical background in nursing and a Master’s degree in health policy. She received her Associate degree in Nursing, a Master’s in public policy from the University of Southern Maine, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Lucas’ doctoral training emphasized research design and included a concentration in biostatistics. Her professional career has been spent at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, studying variations in the delivery of health care, disease screening, and health care appropriateness and overtreatment. Her training in quantitative methods has led to an interest in clinical prediction models and she has participated in projects designed to create, evaluate, and implement predictive models in clinical care.
She is highly committed to the concept of shared decision making and works to provide patients and providers with the tools and skills they need to enhance shared decision making. She teaches and mentors students, trainees, and faculty in research methods and biostatistics and is a member of the Research Navigation team, working with clinical trainees and staff throughout the institution.
